Feeling uncertain about what happens at your first dental appointment is common, especially if you are starting with a new practice. At Gentle Dentistry of Columbus, we understand the importance of making you feel comfortable from the moment you walk through our doors. Our goal is to create a welcoming experience that helps you maintain a healthy, confident smile for years to come. We value open communication and taking the time to answer all of your questions so you feel informed and relaxed.
Your initial visit is designed to get to know you and your oral health needs. You can expect a thorough exam that may include digital X-rays, a medical history review, and a discussion about any concerns you have. This appointment gives the dentist a complete picture of your oral health so we can recommend the best care plan.
Having the right information with you makes your first visit much smoother. Please bring a photo ID, your dental insurance card (if applicable), and a list of medications you currently take. If you have recent dental radiographs (X-rays) from another provider, be sure to bring them as well. Even if additional images are needed, you will not be charged for new radiographs if you provide your existing ones. If you don’t have them, our office can take new radiographs and bill accordingly.
Most first visits last about an hour. This time allows us to complete all necessary exams, gather any diagnostic information, and answer your questions. If additional treatments or procedures are needed, we will discuss them and schedule those appointments conveniently.
In some cases, yes. Whether a cleaning is completed during your first appointment depends on what we discover during your exam and diagnostic measures. If your teeth and gums are in good health and no urgent concerns are identified, a professional cleaning may be performed at that time. However, if conditions such as gum disease or other oral health issues are present, your cleaning may need to be scheduled for a follow-up visit to ensure you receive the most appropriate care.
Most patients benefit from visiting the dentist every six months for routine exams and cleanings. These visits allow us to monitor your oral health, remove any buildup that brushing and flossing may miss, and detect potential problems early. Some patients with specific needs may require more frequent visits, and we will discuss the ideal schedule for you.
Our team cannot wait to meet you! Book your new patient appointment and start on your path to excellent oral health. Gentle Dentistry of Columbus is dedicated to helping you feel comfortable and confident at every step of your dental care journey.
