Today’s dentistry techniques for replacing missing teeth have come a long way from the old days. Modern advances in dental technology now have solutions for people with extensive tooth loss. With full arch dental implants, you can restore your smile and be able to eat the foods you know and love!
Full arch dental implants can be seen in full-mouth individual dental implants, a hybrid denture, or as an implant-supported denture. Unlike traditional dentures we have had since George Washington’s days, implant-supported dentures are surgically anchored into the patient’s jawbone. This new method allows patients to not just have a good smile for pictures but also to have a similar (NOT the same) feeling when chewing food as they did with their healthy natural teeth.
When you replace your missing teeth with this hybrid solution, you will experience many advantages over traditional dentures.
The first step in the full-arch implant procedure is evaluation and consultation with your general dentist to make a plan. Drs. Paris or Yaseen will discuss your expectations and goals to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure.
Implant placement involves:
Once the initial placement of the implant is complete, it needs time to heal fully and fuse with the jawbone. During this time, the patient has to be extremely careful not to harm the area where the implant was placed so as to not cause any damage or create an infection around the implant. Once the healing period is over, the implant has been verified as “integrated,” or fused with the bone properly, then the dentist will scan the implant for the lab to design an abutment (the middle man that attaches the implant to the crown) and crown. Usually, after two weeks, both the abutment and crown will arrive at the dental office, and the patient will be brought in to screw the abutment and crown onto the tooth, making it look like nothing ever happened in the area! Keep in mind this is NOT a short process! From start to finish, this usually takes anywhere from 6-8 months. However, the AMAZING thing is once it is complete, you can set it and forget it!
You may be a good candidate for full-arch dental implants if you meet all of these criteria:
